Episode 1

A History of the World is a partnership between the BBC and the British Museum that focuses on world history, involving collaborations between teams across the BBC, and schools, museums and audiences across the UK. The project focuses on the things we have made, from flint to mobile phone.

The first omnibus broadcast looks at some of the earliest objects in the Museum - some of which are two million years old - and how they made us human. It examines the Olduvai chopping tool and handaxe from what is now Tanzania, a 13,000-year-old carving of a reindeer, and a spear from the earliest North American settlement.
