The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee meets in Berlin on Thursday to choose two new sports for inclusion in the Summer Olympics of 2016. There are seven contenders, each of which has lobbied hard for a spot at the games. So why is Olympic status so important? And what criteria will the sports be expected to fulfil?
