Prom 10: Akiko Suwanai - Virtuoso Violin Works

Prom 10: Akiko Suwanai - Virtuoso Violin Works

There is a real mix of cultures in this concert: a Spanish work by a Frenchman; a Spanish work by a Spaniard who spent most of his working life in France; and a work by a Japanese composer who loved French music best of all. And when it comes to performers, the spotlight falls on a virtuosic Japanese violinist, young Akiko Suwanai, who joins a French orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lyon, with a conductor, Jun Maerkl, who is half Japanese. And all the works in the programme come from the time well before the concept of musical fusion became the latest ‘must have’ accessory for a musician!
