Young, Black and British – Hear Us, Part 1

In the first of a two-part special, three young black teenagers speak out about what life is really like growing up black in the UK.

Zionne, Isaiah and Mandi are young black teenagers who have all experienced racism growing up in the UK. Mandi has been called racist names, Isaiah is often followed round shops by security guards, and Zionne feels she will always have to work harder than everyone else to succeed.

In the first of a two-part special, they speak out about what life is really like growing up black in the UK and why things urgently need to change.

After the death of George Floyd and the nationwide protests against racism, the teenagers know that this is their time to be heard. As well as opening up about their own experiences, they speak to their friends and their parents. They decide to create a manifesto to list the big things they feel need to change in society to make life better for black kids like them.
