Never Say Never

Episode 13 of 20

Phoebe’s leadership skills are put to the test after Amelie is injured.

The artistic girls have a big competition looming - the British Team Championships, where the top gymnastics clubs go head to head in the hope that they are awarded the cup for the best team in Britain.

Competition is fierce as it is the only competition where you are competing for your club, and Amelie and Phoebe are pretty confident as The Academy Angels are the current cup holders. However, the day before the competition, Liz calls the girls in for a team briefing. They face a setback as Amelie has suffered an ankle injury. She is currently the team’s strongest competitor and her injury means she will only be able to compete on bars. It is a huge blow to the team and means two of the younger juniors, Alice and Madi, will have to step up to be part of the senior team and compete against Team GB gymnastic champions such as Alice Kinsella, Kelly Simm and Taeja James.

Knowing the younger girls will need a lot of support, Phoebe is chosen as team captain, while Amelie will have to support all she can as chief cheerleader.

In the Gym Stars challenge, Nile Wilson asks Briony Page, Laura Gallagher and Andrew Stamp (three of the world’s best trampolinists) to set the acro gymnasts a handstand hoop challenge. And Phoebe picks superstar artistic gymnast Ellie Downie as her Gym Stars Top 20.
