Greg Dyke opens new BBC Norwich studios and visits Talking Teenagers event
The Director-General of the BBC, Greg Dyke, was visiting Norwich today (Wednesday 22 October) to open the BBC's new regional headquarters at The Forum.
200 guests from across Norfolk and the East of England were expected to attend a lunchtime reception with the Director-General and visit the BBC's new TV and radio studios at The Forum.
During the day members of the public were able to visit a free exciting interactive exhibition called Talking Teenagers Day.
It offered a chance to meet CBBC presenter Adrian Dickson and have a go at presenting a TV programme; take part in a living art exhibition; have a picture taken with Doctor Who's Tardis; and develop music and writing skills at a Rap workshop.
The event - aimed at helping teenagers express themselves, learn exciting new skills and helping adults understand their concerns better - was hosted by the BBC and The Forum, with schools and colleges in the county taking part.
Head of BBC Norwich Tim Bishop says: "Our television and radio studios are the most advanced in the country and they're provoking a lot of interest within the broadcasting industry.
"At the same time, our TV and radio programmes are going from strength to strength and are now established as some of the BBC's most popular regional programmes."
Greg Dyke was also due to visit Asteroidea 1, a sculpture created by established local artists Margie Britz and Liz McGowan.
The seven-foot in diameter circular work of art uses common starfish collected from a North Norfolk beach and inspired by the detail and pattern of the East Anglian landscape.
Asteroidea 1 will be on display in the BBC reception at The Forum for several weeks.
The BBC moved to The Forum in the heart of the city of Norwich from buildings on Surrey Street.
BBC Radio Norfolk and BBCi services were first to move into the new building in June, with regional current affairs programmes Inside Out and The Politics Show joining them in August.
The award-winning regional news television programme Look East completed the move on 29 September.
