RADIO GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Manny Masih is Nominated For Top Broadcasting Award

The Commission for Racial Equality has nominated BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenter Manny Masih for one of their prestigious Race in the Media Awards (RIMA) and will announce the winners during a ceremony at The Savoy in London on Friday 5 April.

Manny, who presents Sangheet Mahal, a Sunday evening entertainment show taking an in-depth look at the Asian community in Gloucestershire, has been entered in the RIMA’s Radio Entertainment/Music category.

His nomination follows the staging of the BBC Radio Gloucestershire Asian Mela which took place at the Guildhall in Gloucester last year. Manny reported from the event which was attended by representatives from scores of leading Gloucestershire services and organisations such as the fire, police, and armed forces. There were talks about the work undertaken by the organisations and the employment opportunities which exist for the Asian community. Asian culture was also celebrated through a festival of traditional and modern Indian dancing, Asian food and arts and music.

Manny is delighted by his nomination and says: "I feel very honoured to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award. It’s a tribute to the hundreds of people who contributed to the event and to the many loyal listeners of Sangheet Mahal."

From his first step into broadcasting Manny has dealt with the pressures of live radio with ease. When BBC Radio Gloucestershire first invited him onto the airwaves they challenged him to teach a novice how to use a computer - live on air and all within three hours!
