Terry Wogan and Charlotte Green voted most attractive voices on national radio.

Radio 2's breakfast presenter Terry Wogan and Charlotte Green, the Radio 4 newsreader, have the most attractive voices on national radio, according to a poll of Radio Times readers.

More than 6,000 entries were received by post and at radiotimes.com, in the most comprehensive survey ever conducted to find the UK's favourite broadcasting voices.

In the men's section of the poll, Wogan finished ahead of the Radio 4 newsreader Peter Donaldson, with third place awarded to Brian Perkins, the announcer on the same station. In fourth place was John Peel, who appears on both Radio 1 and Radio 4, with Eddie Mair of Radio 4 in fifth.

Green finished ahead of Today's Sue MacGregor, with Natalie Wheen of Classic FM in third. Radio 2's travel presenter Sally Boazman was voted fourth most attractive female voice, with Penny Gore of Radio 3 in fifth.

The results are published in the 26 January - 1 February edition of Radio Times, out today (Tuesday). The top 30 men and top 30 women are listed overleaf, along with the most popular man and woman by station, for BBC Radios 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Live, plus Classic FM.

Both Terry Wogan and Charlotte Green say they're "thrilled" to have won their categories.

"Most awards, gongs, decorations and leather medals are given out by committee, by a select few, hand-picked by an even smaller, more exclusive group," says Wogan. "What makes this one really count for me is that it's the listening public's choice. Those people, to whom I'm a mumble in the background of their morning lives, think enough of me to take the time and trouble to vote. I'll keep talking as long as they keep listening."

Green adds: "I like the anonymity that radio gives me, and although I get a large amount of fan mail, I'm rarely recognised. I'd like to thank everybody who took the time to vote for me. I really love what I do and this is the icing on the cake. I only hope the News Quiz team don't tease me too much when the new series starts!"
