Mailing lists V1: On some websites, I’ve seen the invitation ‘Join our mailing list’, but I’m afraid I don’t really understand how these things work. A mailing list is a way of sending the same e-mail message to lots of different people. That’s what happens at work – all members of staff who are on the mailing list get the same message sent to them automatically - whether they want it or not. But, you might want to subscribe to a particular mailing list yourself – for example, if you want to know what’s on at the cinema or the theatre. Or if you want to join a discussion group – then you can subscribe to the list to exchange e-mail messages with other members of the group. V1: My son wants to join a mailing list to discuss a project he’s working on at school, but I’m worried he’ll be exposed to all kinds of offensive language and opinions. V2: I wouldn’t worry, as long as you choose a moderated mailing list, it should be OK.
