Susie Dent is an author and translator and is the resident dictionary expert on Channel 4's long-running word and numbers game 'Countdown'. Susie has worked on the show for ten years and has had over 1000 appearance. | Voices Fact Box | It took 70 years to complete the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. It was proposed to take 10 years. The OED is undergoing a major £34 million revision programme. Every definition and etymology is being painstakingly revised, and hundreds of new entries are written each year. |
She has written several books on language, including Larpers and Shroomers: the language report: a survey of current trends in English and the way we use it. Susie was born in Woking, Surrey. She now lives in Oxford. A word which Susie has noticed crops up in Oxford is the word 'Pash' which means to kiss and is an Australian term.
