Pegasus Theatre
Pegasus Theatre is the home of Oxford's youth theatre and is famous for its provocative productions. It is one of the few arts organisations in the country to offer a wide range of cutting edge contemporary performances for young people to engage with. Staff, professional performers, young people and adults explore the theatre world together through watching or participating in drama, music and dance to discover different perspectives and attitudes. Directions and parking:
We stage plays that are innovative.
One of the things we want to explore is "what is theatre?" We use cross-disciplinary forms - video, film projection, music, dance - we break down the barriers to what people think is "theatre". | | Euton Daley, Artistic Director |
The Pegasus Theatre is next door to the Magdalen Arms pub at the Iffley Road end of Magdalen Road, a one-way street in East Oxford. Buses to Rose Hill (numbers 3 or 4) stop almost at the door. There is very limited street parking in this area. Deals:

You never quite know what you'll see or what it will be like at the Pegasus.
But, it stimulates discussion and creative thoughts. | | Euton Daley, Artistic Director |
The theatre straddles the boundaries between young arts and contemporary theatre by running classes in performance, technical theatre, writing and marketing as well as workshops and residences. The Oxford Youth Theatre Workshops are open to anyone between the ages of 10 and 25 and membership is £20 per year. There are no auditions and you need no special skills to become a member. Backstage, front of house or on stage, Pegasus offers people the opportunity to learn about and get involved in a real working theatre. Annual membership costs £20. Registrations for their youth theatre workshops were so popular, they sold out in September 2002. Pegasus also supports Oxford Youth Dance and Tac-au-Tac Dance School for young people aged 3 years and up. From the youth theatre workshops, two theatre companies have emerged - The Right Size Theatre Company in West End and People Like Us. Pegasus Theatre has gone on to work with such companies. As Gill Jaggers, Marketing Director, said: "It's about developing a range of forms of expression - where recent success stories have developed. We're now working with local companies that are emerging in the area." Accessibility:
The main entrance has access for wheelchairs and there are seating spaces and toilet facilities for audience members who are wheel chair users as well as those with mobility difficulties.
