Mark Barnes has flown his balloon over his home county many times. But only rarely has the wind carried him right over the heart of Oxford. | | The observatory at Green College |
It blew straight over the city centre on the morning that BBC Oxford went along for the ride. The mellow stone of the ancient colleges glows crisply in the sunlight just after dawn, before the streets are filled with traffic and fumes. But the city's modern features are also striking from the air. Our gallery shows some of the city's most famous landmarks, as well as rowers on the Thames, Cherwell School, the former Oxford Prison and an ordinary suburban street. We took off from Cutteslowe Park, to the north of the city, and headed almost due south. For fun, you could look at the pictures and try to work out exactly what route we took.
