The Kings men, seen in the picture above, form a stone circle made up of 77 stones thought to date back to the late Neolithic period.  | | Finding the stones: Heading on the A3400 from Chipping Norton towards Long Compton turn left towards Little Rollright and the stones are a short way from the turning on the left. |
Legend has it that the stones, which stand in a perfect circle 104 feet across, are the soldiers of an ancient ruler who were turned to stone by a witch called Mother Shipton. The King himself is just across the road in the county of Warwickshire. The site is maintained by the Rollright Trust which is a registered charity and they ask visitors to the site to make a donation of 50p for adults and 25p for children to help with the upkeep of the site.
