The website aims to capture the many stories of everyday life from the people of Britain and it will serve as a lasting legacy for future generations.
If you or one of your family have a memories of life during the war, whether they are about being in the landarmy, being evacuated or fighting abroad then you can help the BBC to build the People's War archive. Every single story is important for building this archive, so don't think that your story is too small - they are all important. You can submit your stories directly to the website by going to www.bbc.co.uk/ww2 or if you don't have access to a computer then you can find your nearest People's War Centre by calling 08000 150950, and they will be able to help you with your story. There will also be lots of opportunities to go to People's War events during the summer - so keep an eye out for information on these. Local memories BBC Oxford is joining local organisations to build a World War Two archive of memories, photos and artefacts that can be accessed by generations to come. One of the organisations we are working with is the museum of Oxford. It's putting on a 1940's tea dance, on Wednesday 30th March, to launch its part in project and we have twenty pairs of tickets to give away. BBC Oxford's Alison Booker will be broadcasting live from the event. We also have fact sheets on how to include your story and are looking for people who will give up there time to help collate peoples memories. If you would like tickets to the tea dance, a fact sheet or would like to volunteer, call 08459 311222. |
