When the Luminox festival rolls into Oxford on 15 March, the organisers want as many of you as possible to bring along your homemade Fire Jars. What is a Fire Jar you ask? Well, one way that you can recycle jars is by turning them into your very own special lantern. The aim is to get at least 1,000 fire jars which will form a unique community installation at the main Luminox Event in Oxford's Broad Street. | | Pupils show off their finished creations |
A series of fire jar workshops have been taking place in the county's schools with more on the way too. The latest school to take part in the project was Wood Farm Primary School in Headington. The workshops which have been organised by Fusion are proving really popular. With the help of artist Jane Carey, an amazing array of fire jars were created at Wood Farm Primary, which can be viewed in our image gallery. On the evening itself, the children are invited to bring their lanterns to Luminox as their lanterns will make up the art installation. Luminox, a special highlight of the Oxfordshire 2007 celebrations, is a three evening event planned for 15 to 17 March in central Oxford, involving huge fire sculptures created by the French company Carabosse together with a Luminox spire sculpture by local artist, Ted Dewan.
