The English Youth Ballet performing Coppelia

Young dancers in Nottinghamshire are being given the opportunity to perform in a classical ballet within a professional setting.

The English Youth Ballet is holding auditions for "Coppelia" on February 2nd. The auditions are open to dancers aged between 8 and 18. Successful students will then rehearse in Nottingham for a month.

Date: Saturday 2nd February 2002
Venue: The Concert Hall, Nottingham
Time: 1.30 - 3.00pm    Age: 8 - 11 yrs
          3.30 - 5.00pm    Age: 12 - 18 yrs
Cost: £5.50 (for audition)
        There is a further fee if accepted into the production.
Dress code: girls - leotard and tights, with hair very neat.
                   boys - T-shirt and tights.

There are parts for all ages and standards in the ballet which is to be performed on 23rd and 24th July 2002.

Rehearsals will take place over 11 days during weekends and school holidays, each lasting about 4 to 6 hours.

The sessions will be with international choreographers; Dominic Marshall, Ursula Hageli and Richard Slaughter.

The dancers will also undertake ballet classes.

The English Youth Ballet felt that most youth ballets were rehearsed and staged in London requiring young dancers and their families to travel vast distances.

EYB have decided to do the reverse and come to a particular region, rehearse in a school and produce a ballet in their theatre.

Previous EYB's ballets have been a great success. Dance Expressionmagazine (2000) said, "it gives great enjoyment to the performers, teaches them something of how a professional performance is put on and provides the public with a carefully prepared entertainment".
