If Wind Power Is the Way Forward:
Why aren't oil tankers propelled by sails?... ...And can this possibly true of our cuddly greens and bountiful corps from another forum:... ...The windpower industry association is running out of control. There are a few very vocal opponents who regularly write to the press. The windmill club website published their names under the banner "WE KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE......."... ...Allegedly...

Green Nottingham
Nottingham is actually one of the most polluted cities in the country! (National Air Quality Archieve.) This is surprising as it's also one of the smallest. It's not surprising though, think it's part of the residents constant mission to convince themselves that Nottingham is some important major city!

Recycling Air
We don`t need to invent how to recycle polluted air. We have the technology. For heavens sake its not exactly rocket science is it. We either take some drastic action and start purifying our atmosphere by some filtration method.......or.............. global warming continues to take its effect on each and everyone of us, as the average temperatures continue to rise higher and higher.

Thoughts on recycling
If we british are to be more recycling consciuos then we have more than one collection per week. We need containers to hold paper at each household, likewise for clothing materials, glass, and one for plastics. The collections should be seperated into a day for each . Once the general public have caught onto the idea there should be less than 10% of actual rubbish ...not recyclable . The present idea of one wheelie bin collection per week is not acceptable for serious recycling.

Recycling
The UK has a terrible record as regards recycling. Rather like a huge great Cat, we dig dirty great holes and bury our rubbish. Out of sight out of mind you may think...WRONG. Such landfill sites are major contributors to harmful greenhouse gases, ie methane. We should follow Europes lead and clean up our cats.

Air Pollution---The Penalty
Nottinghamshire can play a very small part in promoting a world wide campaign in reducing air pollution. Many people will agree that; if the Public Transport system was in better shape they would use it.If the road tax was used to improve public transport it would speed up the program, if the roads were improved, if more speed restrictions were enforced etc..etc..etc........................... However the present buses we have around Nottinghamshire would be sufficeint for the next few years but obviously more needed,if Nottinghamshire Bus Company`s were funded from the council tax. More bus routes be opened up 24hrs a day. A council tax funded bus service available to all within Nottinghamshire. What better way to encourage the public to use public transport.

Air Pollution---The Penalty part 2
The penalty to us all of course if we do not takes steps as suggested are; the inevitable and gradual traffic strangulation of our roads in Nottinghamshire and throughout the United Kingdom. The continuous build up of carbons and lethal gases that pour into the atmosphere and destroy the ozone layer which protects our planet from the suns u/v rays. A recent T.V satelite program provided strong evidence that global warming is set to rise dramatically over the next coming few decades with the human race facing its end within 150 years.

Reduce air pollution
Too make Nottingham greener we need to be courageous in our actions. We are well under way with the beginings of a new approach to public transport in our fine city. However the only way for us to reduce air pollution in our city, maybe others will then follow, is for public transport within city limits to be placed on the council tax. Then steadily increase by any means possible to deter all unecessary vehicles away from the city. Place more car parking at the city boundaries where buses and eventually trams will provide a service where we ride all over the city as an when needed. A tighter control on taxis so that only so many will be allowed to operate . Those of us who own cars will only be allowed to park at their place of residence. The vehicle will only be allowed to travel away from the city , any vehicle seen traveling into the centre will be subject to a fine. Orange badge holders will have restricted access within the city, and subjected to positive identification by traffic wardens if required. The immediate and positive advantages to all these suggestions are; 1. large reduction in air pollution 2. large reduction in traffic 3. crime reduced in all areas leaving the police to target their duties more selectively. 4. emergency services able to reach their location easily. 5. accidents to pedestrians reduced greatly. I`m sure their are many more positive points that can be followed up. The point is do we have the courage to carry out drastic measures as this, not only to make Nottingham greener and more environmentally friendly, but a first step in healing our world.

Derbys. rhododendron's
So now it is OK to remove a beautiful species of plant and burn it because it hinders the natural growth of the indigenous plants of the area. When is that going to done to the animals of the area, like humans.

laziness
Nottingham is known for the legendary of Robin hood of Sherwood Forest. we have a reputation for keeping Nottingham green, so we should get our acts together. More bins should be installed in the city centre. There is just not enough of them. It is the public responsibility as well as the local authorities. So, stop the complaining and excuses and get off our backside and work together.

Greenness of Nottingham
In order to reduce the amount of air and noise pollution on Nottingham's roads I think that places within the City Centre such as Parliament Street should be pedestrianised, and open to public transport and goods vehicles only, in the same way that parts of the Market Square are. If the City Council adopted some of these ideas then this would be a real disincentive for people, especially commuters, who take their cars into the city. I think that a public campaign should also begin to encourage people to use public transport more often- this obviously needs to be made more accessible to the elderly and the disabled.

easy
Ban cars from the city centre, make it free from traffic. Have alternate day driving for certain postcodes, many places in asia have this and its improved the situsation no end? On teh spot fines for littering, ill behaviour, drunkeness, swearing. Still nothing will get done, we are dealing with politicians here

green issues
On the whole we don't do enough, it's disgraceful how much is wasted, things can be re-used, people should be encouraged alot more to recycle - local authorities have a responsibilty to do this.

Nottinghamenviroment
With the amount of bars in Nottingham - comes alot of bottles, cardboard (packging), and general mess. there should be a law which states that, bars , pubs, clubs etc. should be made to recycle
