One can only hope Catherine Zeta Jones isn't watching. Douglas portrays Professor Grady Tripp, a successful author who has the misfortune of suffering a midlife crisis at the same time as writer's block.

Couldn't get much worse? Don't you believe it. Tripp teaches at a university. One of his students is trying to seduce him while another writes seriously dodgy stories and carries a gun.

Wonder Boys concentrates on two days in Tripp's hectic life.

It's funny, it's very well acted, but doesn't quite hit the mark, tending to gloss over Tripp's more questionable actions.
