Scouting For Girls

Dib, dib, dib - the scouts are coming

Scouting for Girls look forward to their first headline gig in Nottingham.

The time last year Scouting for Girls were known by a small group of loyal fans who'd probably been members of their funky Wolf Cub fan club for several years.

Then along came She's So Lovely and suddenly the trio had hit the big time.

Debut album Scouting for Girls went into the charts at number 12 and now the band's off on it's first headline tour.

On the road

Singer Roy Stride says it's hard to take in. "Last time out we were playing to 100 people a night. Now we're playing to a 1000 people a night.

"It's completely nuts. In less than three months it's taken off like a rocket."

Growing huge

A decade ago when Roy and his colleagues began making music they set up a club where fans were called Wolf Cubs.

It was very hands on, with the group answering messages personally and giving away free CDs. Success has meant changes.

"We used to sign all the membership cards individually but we just don't have the time now. We've got 4000 - 5000 that need to go out in the next couple of weeks. It's just built up and built up."

Too many songs

Despite having plenty of songs in the can, fans won't be able to enjoy a second album release for several months.

Roy says they're going to make the most of their debut.

"I've been writing songs for 10 years. I've got an enormous back catalogue. It's always more fun when you play songs the people know. We've got a really good set now. It's working really well."

When and where

Scouting for Girls play Nottingham's Rescue Rooms on Monday 26 November, 2007. Ticket details on 08713 100 000.
