Nottinghamshire school caretaker, Bill Chambers (63), has won the BBC Sports Unsung Hero Award. Bill works at the Elms School in Saint Ann's where he organises after-school clubs and runs a youth football team. He will now be off the BBC Sports Personality Awards in London on Sunday where he'll be considered for the national award. Nottinghamshire County Cricket club were named Team of the Year at the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards.  | | Mick Newell |
Director of Cricket Mick Newell and acting captain Jason Gallian led the team up to collect their trophy. Cerebral Palsy athlete Sarah Dunster was named Disabled Sportswoman of the Year. Sarah, who is 27, has recently retired after dominating the 100m, 200m and 400m winning world titles and breaking world records in the events. Former Notts cricketer Richard Bates won Coach of the Year. Bates led the England women's cricket team to their first Ashes victory in more than 40 years this summer.  | | Sarah Dunster |
He's currently on tour in India and Sri Lanka where the girls surprised him by presenting him with the trophy. And potential paralympians Sam Hynd (14), from Sutton in Ashfield and Sophie Wells (15), from Harby, Newark, won the Junior Disability Sports Awards. Sam is a national swimming champion and Sophie an international dressage rider. Both collected a £500 cheque for their clubs from the Lady Taverners sporting charity.
