We're told that the people of Nottinghamshire love to dance. It's a great way to get fit and meet new people. So, with this in mind, Nottinghamshire dance teacher, Ann Culley, is here to help you learn a few steps. She's taught BBC Nottingham's Mike Young how to samba. Now it's your chance to follow in his footsteps by watching Ann in action and practising a few steps from the comfort of your own living room (or office if you're not so shy). Ann started dancing in the womb, her mum won a dancing competition when she was six months pregnant with Ann. She's been teaching dance in Nottinghamshire for the last 26 years. "Nottinghamshire has always been keen on dancing. It's a sport that everyone can join in with. Hopefully the dancing on the telly will hopefully encourage youngsters to get involved. There are a lot of dancing establishments in Nottingham and Mansfield." | | Mike... ready to samba |
Ana Lessa, a lecturer in Brazilian Studies at the University of Nottingham, has been dancing the samba since she was a child: "It's a very good cardiovascular exercise, you realise tire yourself doing samba." Dancing can also be good for your love life. Nottinghamshire's Peter and Margaret Walley have spent most of their marriage dancing together. In fact, it's how they met, at the ages of 15 and 14 respectively. They've never been apart since. Margaret jokes: "Peter always said it was the legs he liked the look of. Anyone at the social level can go out, learn the steps, meet new friends and have a lovely evening." Before you don your costume Nottinghamshire dance teachers Ray Needham and Sue Warren offer up some advice to all virgin dancers: "Relax and enjoy it. Let your natural feelings come out."
