This Sceptred Isle is a real feast for the senses. Beautifully produced, this book pairs the photographs of Simon Marsden with the prose of English Heritage writers, Val Horsler and Susan Kelleher.

The reader is taken on a journey across the country via locations with strong paranormal associations. Marsden's striking black and white photographs are complimented by their associated legends and tales.

The book is divided into five geographical areas, and North Yorkshire's historical sites feature highly in the section covering the North.

Find out about the weird pixie-like creatures that have been spotted around Pickering Castle, or the monk who roams in the grounds of Helmsley Castle.

The book features the legends of King Arthur and his knights associated with Richmond Castle. Apparently, Arthur's last battle was nearby, and he and his knights are not dead but merely sleeping somewhere.
