Alan Johnston was the BBC's correspondent in Gaza, and the only foreign journalist from a major media organisation based in the area when he went missing in mid-march 2007. He'd been there for three years and he knew the risks associated with covering the news in such a volatile environment. Alan's colleagues right across the BBC held a vigil for his safe return every week of his captivity and he was released after 114 days.
