Not content with being the official "switchers-on" for both Malton and Norton's Christmas Lights, Anna Wallace and Dougie Weake were in Malton Marketplace beforehand to present a live programme. The pair from BBC Radio York's Mid Morning Show were sampling all that Malton and Norton has to offer in the run up to Christmas. The team spoke to businesses and shoppers. They also met the Norton woman who, despite running the local slimming club, recently opened a high class patisserie. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites Malton also has a world class Barista (an expert in the art of coffee making) and Dougie discovered more about this particular craft. And TV Presenter Selina Scott - who lives in the area - told Anna why she loves Malton and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. ![]() A group of pupils from Norton County Primary School turned up to sing live on the radio. Anna and Dougie were captivated by the children's enthusiasm and beautiful voices. And shoppers and passers-by were also entertained as the choir sang two carols to help get everyone in the festive mood. Of course, there were mince pies too and Dougie helped distribute the seasonal offerings to shoppers in the marketplace - and, naturally, one or two went to the Radio York team who didn't want to miss out on the tasty treats! ![]() Dougie Weake. There was also a chance to hear more about the newly launched Malton and Norton website and Anna spoke to the organisers of the Christmas lights appeal who've again come up trumps this year. The lights in Malton were switched on by Anna and Dougie... and the following evening they did the same in Norton.
Anna, who lives in Norton, says "It's a real honour to be invited to switch on the Christmas lights in my own home patch". last updated: 10/12/2007 at 12:40 You are in: North Yorkshire > BBC Radio York > BBC Radio York Features > All switched on! |
