Peter Grant

Yorkshire singing sensation Peter Grant popped into BBC Radio York's studio for a chat with Adam Tomlinson...

Peter Grant is only 20 years old, but his fantastic singing voice belies his age.

He's following in the footsteps of other singers, such as Michael Bublé, Jamie Cullum and Norah Jones, who are introducing a whole new generation to Jazz and 'standards' but with a modern, edgy sound.

Most six or seven year olds want to emulate the pop stars of the charts at the time, but not Peter. He spent his pocket money on old vinyl records of artists such as Frank Sinatra, Matt Monroe and Mel Tormé.

He started singing in Working Men's Clubs when he was thirteen and two years ago he was spotted by a record company singing in a club in Bristol. Within two weeks he was recording an album in the famous Abbey Road Studios - and Paul McCartney was jammin' in the next studio!

The rest, as they say, is history.
