The Beached stage in 2006

Beached Fest Battalion

Matt Lunn, former drummer of York band Colour of Fire, brought forth his band of brothers to this year's Beached Festival in Scarborough - meet The Officers.

Standing in the shade of the portaloos, The Officers are still looking every inch the rock stars after their performance on the Sunday. I caught up with the guys to find out how their set went…

“Outrageous!”

"How would we sum up playing Beached Festival in three words? Short, pretty, and dirty! "

The Officers

“It was pretty good man! I was gutted that we got stopped four songs in, we were just getting into it, we had to change the set at the last minute, I don't know why that was…”

“I don't think they were into how dirty it was getting!”

Describing themselves as ‘the future of rock and roll’, the electro-rock five-piece have already impressed crowds throughout the UK after playing shows with celebrated band Placebo and supporting The Cooper Temper Clause.

“That was great!” says vocalist Matt, “Every show’s just about what we're doing really, we don't really concentrate on who we're playing with or anything like that – you've really got to knuckle down and get into it, and sort of think about who you're trying to reach and who you're trying to connect with really… I thought we more than held our own, definitely, and it was great just for reaching a few more people”.

“It was a good experience just to play on that level really” added synth-player Stu, “Just to prove to ourselves that we're capable of doing it.”

The festival's main stage

Having formed only a year ago, the band have already had an amazing year in terms of achievement with a growing list of shows and festival appearances and establishing that all important unique sound. So what does the next few months hold for The Officers?

“Recording. We're going to do a demo and probably [start] the album, which is going to be pretty exciting” say the band, “We'll be going into the studio with Jagz Kooner, developing our sound and everything about the band so we're as good as we can be – we're just willing to put everything we've got into it”.

So with an album and plenty more shows to come, keep your eyes and ears open for more from The Officers in the near future.
