French by birth and upbringing, she first came to North Yorkshire in the late 1970's. How to contact ClothyldePhone: 01947-604020 Mobile: 07988-047515 E-mail: clothylde9@aol.com Inspired conceptually by Paul Klee's idea of "taking a line for a walk" and in practice by stained glass design which imposes colour boundaries, my paintings are quite stylised and show a personal and evolving perspective on the Yorkshire moors and coast. I was born and brought up in the south of France and first came to North Yorkshire as a school girl in 1976. It was on this trip to Robin Hood's Bay that I fell in love with the North York Moors and the East Coast. ![]() Part of Moortop VII by Clothylde Vergnes As soon as I had finished my studies, I came back to the area around Whitby where I have lived ever since. I started painting in 1978 when I first came to England. I now work as a professional artist and my work can be seen in a number of local galleries. My lifelong passion for drawing and painting stems from my attraction to natural forms. The range of colours and forms found in nature draws me in to explore and hopefully share their essential qualities. ![]() Moortop I I find inspiration in my surroundings and my paintings include bold landscapes in oils, detailed watercolour botanicals and abstract landscapes of the mind. I have recently concentrated on moorscapes and paintings of coastal villages such as Robin Hood's Bay, with an emphasis on the semi-symbiotic relationship of buildings, land and the sea. My work can currently be seen in the Grosmont Gallery, in Grosmont, and at the Stockdale Gallery, on Church Street in Whitby. I was also one of ten artists selected to represent the Yorkshire coast artists taking part in the North Yorkshire Open Studios, at Scarborough Art Gallery. The exhibition (in the coffee lounge) runs until 15 July 2007. This year I have been appointed Chair of Whitby ArtNet, which is a self funding, non profit making organisation established to promote the awareness and practice of the arts in and around Whitby. Membership is open to artists and the friends of the arts. ArtNet sets up three or four exhibitions a year, in Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby and Lockton, to show the work of its members. last updated: 26/06/07 You are in: North Yorkshire > Entertainment > The Arts > Artists' Quarter > NY Artist: Clothylde Vergnes
