Beyond All Reason hit the ground running in 2003 bringing some much needed energy, and a new sound, to the metal scene. In 2004 their debut EP received critical acclaim from Radio 1 DJs Zane Lowe and Mary Anne Hobbs. Then their single 'This September' got airplay on the famed KROQ radio in the States. But despite being declared one of Rock Sound's top 10 unsigned bands and major record label interest, not much seems to have happened. Until now that is. So just what has the band been up to? "We’ve been working so hard on creating a new sound, and I think we weren’t ready back in 2003 for the attention that we had been getting. We had that EP but we didn’t really have anything to back it up with. "We weren’t expecting anything to happen. The fact we've got the album out is brilliant. We've got a big product to sell now. When you tell fans they can get the CD from their local Virgin or HMV... that's great. "We’ve been working with our manager for four years now, last year we got sick of meeting all these labels and thinking why are we waiting for them? So our manager decided he would launch the Ad Altiora label." Was it good for you to have that certain element of creative control that you get, when you're producing the album? "We really felt we could relax and take our time with it. Pretty much half of the album was written while we were recording. It was a huge learning curve, I think the band has grown so much just from the experience of us being stuck in a room together." BAR did come close to breaking up at one point; can you elaborate on why that was at the time? "That's definitely not true. I've not come across that one before." "I reckon in a year we will be a little bit ahead of where we are now, we're just doing things slowly. Hopefully we’ll be thinking about maybe another album or some sort of other recording out. Just working hard, that’s what we are going to be doing in a year’s time." What advice would you give to other local bands wanting to record and get out there and succeed? "Work hard. Get yourselves into really tight level as a unit, rehearsing together to the point where you think you can record something worth doing. If you get a demo done, it doesn’t have to be amazing just something that shows the potential of what you’ve got in the band. Send it off to venues, not just in your own City but surrounding cities as well. "You’ve just got to bite the bullet and get out there." What's been your greatest moment so far? "Two years ago we were lucky enough to get a tour with Coheed and Cambria for four dates. The second date was in the Camden Electric Ballroom, a venue I'd always dreamed of playing. "We were first on again, expecting not a lot of people would be there, but ya know we’d do our best. "It got to the point were we walked out on stage and everyone was cheering and shouting, I wasn’t expecting that. It was just such a warm welcome to walk onto our first big stage, with a big band.
