Two blast reporters holding a microphone
BBC Blast Young Reporters from last year

Fancy being our Blast Sports Reporter?

The BBC’s Blast Young Reporter Scheme lets you experience what it’s like to work for BBC Radio York as well as share your passion about the local sports scene. Applications for this summer’s scheme are now open.

Are you passionate about Sport? Fancy being the next Gary Lineker, John Inverdale or Sue Barker?

A new, exciting opportunity has arisen for young reporters to work alongside sports teams at BBC Radio York and the BBC North Yorkshire website this summer.

You’ll have a proven interest in both general sport and football journalism in particular.

You will be given the opportunity to record and write your own reports, and see how radio programmes and web pages are put together.

We're looking for an enthusiastic team player with a passion for sport to join BBC Radio York and the BBC North Yorkshire Where I Live website.

What's in it for you?

  • You'll take part in an eight week unpaid placement; of which we'd expect you to commit two days each week.
  • You'll have a BBC mentor who will help you create your stories, and give you advice with your career.
  • You'll get your stories and interviews played out by your BBC local radio station; and also published on the BBC website - for the whole world to see.
  • We'll send you to Bristol for a two-day training event; paying for your accommodation and travel.
  • You may also have the opportunity to appear on BBC TV.

So, if you've got some spare time this summer, are aged between 18 -22 and fancy putting BBC Blast on your CV, then apply now to become a Blast Sports Reporter.
