BBC Radio York personality Dougie Weake has baldly gone where he’s never been before – all in the name of art and charity. ![]() Before Dougie is already known for being somewhat shiny on top, for which he is regularly ribbed on air. But now, there's nothing left at all! Dougie needs to be totally bald for his forthcoming starring role as Daddy Warbucks in the musical “Annie”, which is being staged by the New Earswick Musical Society at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre on November 8-12. He is already known for his on-air stunts through his “Dare You Do It With Dougie” feature on Saturday mornings, when he sets unusual challenges for listeners. ![]() After Dougie decided to lose his hair in public, so that his humiliation could be used to raise money for BBC Children in Need. But he didn't do it alone - Pudsey Bear was there to hold his hand throughout! Dougie said: “I’m used to being the butt of jokes at Radio York, so I really don’t mind this. After all, the great Albert Finney had his head shaved to play Daddy Warbucks. If it was good enough for him, it’s good enough for me. If we raise some money for charity at the same time, so much the better.” last updated: 02/11/07 You are in: North Yorkshire > Children In Need > Hair today, gone tomorrow! |
