One North Yorkshire egg farm has hit an important milestone. In one week, the Potter family's Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs business sold over one million eggs from their Village Farm pack-house at Thirsk. "We had a surge of orders that took us through the million-eggs-a-week barrier for the first time. He reckons the high demand reflects people's growing preference for high quality locally-produced food. "Consumers want to know where their food comes from, and the more local the better. Karen Todd, head of local sourcing at supermarket group ASDA says, "Our customers have been going mad for Yorkshire Farmhouse free range eggs ever since they were introduced as part of our Best of Yorkshire range. This is fantastic news for all the guys at Yorkshire Farmhouse. Selling one million locally produced eggs in a week is egg-straordinary!". Adrian says the growth of the business will not prejudice the traditional principles that the family have adhered to since their first free range flock was established over 20 years ago. "We are still the only significant producer in Yorkshire that is dedicated to Lion quality free-range and organic egg production, and with a pack house that is a no-go area for battery eggs. And instead of amalgamating our flocks into large units, we stick with the traditional smaller sheds that encourage the birds to roam and pick up that all- important taste to the eggs." |
