Where are they now - Nigel Jay"I joined BBC television news in the North West in March 1989, shortly before the Hillsborough disaster. Though I wasn't directly involved in reporting it, it was a very tense period in which to begin my job." "I initially came to cover the breakfast bulletins after I joined from BBC Radio Stoke and I also assisted Stuart Hall in his 'Clean Sweep' series which helped me learn more of the ropes of TV news. In fact, after Stuart left, I took over 'Clean Sweep' myself." Help playing audio/video "As well as at breakfast time, I found myself presenting bulletins at all times of the day. I presented at lunchtimes, late nights and at weekends when the role was simply presenter as opposed to today's presenter/producer. I used to write the weekend sports reports too." ![]() ...and Nigel Jay today. "I used to enjoy the mini-series inserts I worked on. They were often 'punter-led' and were always interesting; the ones that stick out are 'Who Cares?' where we looked at family members rather than professionals who cared for ill people and 'Another Country' where we looked at self-contained foreign communities in the North West." "Since leaving North West Tonight in early 2005, I've been very busy. I produced and directed a documentary on Pakistan which, although not shown in this country, has been shown on BBC World. I also host media training seminars and various corporate events." "I've also written a book 'The Answer To Everything" which I'm currently sending out to publishers and, because I now live on a narrowboat, I'm hoping to make a series of short films about what it's like to live on the water rather than just spend a holiday in a boat." last updated: 11/01/2008 at 15:12 SEE ALSOYou are in: North West Tonight > History > Where are they now - Nigel Jay
