Richard Askam

He went to school in Preston before studying English literature at Birmingham University and, after living and working in Japan for a couple of years, moved into journalism where he worked for BBC Radio Lancashire as a news reporter and presenter.

After joining North West Tonight about six years ago, he's since covered several major sporting events involving regional sportsmen and women.

These include Liverpool's Champions League victory in Istanbul, the Olympic Games in Athens and boxer Ricky Hatton's world title fight in Las Vegas.

Viewers have also watched Richard scared to death as a co-driver in a rally car and on a fun ride on the top of one of America's tallest buildings. He has also presented the Super League Show and is a regular contributor to BBC Final Score.

He lives in Lancashire with his wife and two children.
