I am looking for any relatives or anyone who knew of my mother Kathleen Margaret Burke born 23/5/1925 ??

I have been told that her father was Richard Burke: a school teacher and her mother (who died giving birth to her) was Marie Deady. I believe her father remarried and there were step children. One of whom may have been called Kevin.

Would love to hear from anyone in that area anyways..

I have only just learned about your enquiry into the Burke Family. I worked with John Burke in Cookstown and remained close friends with John until his death. John was married to Deidre McSherry from Coalisland who pre deceased him as did his youngest son Michael. He is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters. Sons Richard and Paul and daughters Grainne and Pauline still live in Cookstown. Son Kevin is married and living I believe in up state New York. John's father was Richard Burke and was the headmaster in the local technical college in Cookstown. John's brother Richard (Dickie) is married with one daughter and is retired as headmaster of Armagh techinical college and lives in Keady, Co. Armagh. John had another brother who is now dead also. His name escapes me at present, but he did not marry and also lived in Keady, Co Armagh. John, Deidre and son Michael God Rest Their Souls are all interned in the family plot at Forthill Cementry, Cookstown. Hope this is of use to you.

Hello Tom

Will you please thank you father for his offer to help us. What we would like is more personal information such as what they looked like, their personalities etc.
From what I can remember, our mother was a feisty red head, with a temper to match, but she also had a keen sense of humour and did not bear a grudge for long.
We have just returned from Cookstown on a very short ‘fact finding’ visit. Although we didn't’t get to meet any relatives, it was a joy just to see the place Kathleen grown up.
Mention to your father that we stayed at Killycolp house; a beautiful old house on Killycolp Road, with John and Liz McGucken, maybe he would know them?

We found your countrymen to be most friendly and hospitable and you appear to be the same.
Thank you for taking the time to contact.

Regards
Maureen

Hi Maureen, if you need any more info, my father knew the family and is willing to help. He still lives in Cookstown. I hope this is of some use to you.

Hello Tom. Thank you so much for your interest and for taking the time to write. I believe the information you have given me is relating to my mothers family.

I have three sisters and I can't begin to tell you how thrilled we are at, at last having found our relatives. We are hoping to pay a visit to cookstown in a few weeks time, so will have news of your home town soon. Do you have any places you suggest we visit?

Hi, my name is Tom I am originally from Cookstown County Tyrone, I believe I know the Burke family you are seeking. If it is the same family their son died in the 80s, I went to school with him. I believe there were two daughters and three sons. kevin Mickle and the older son I can't remember his name, but I know that about 5 years ago he worked in the pork processing plant in Cookstown County Tyrone, he is married and still lives there. My father was a friend of the father, his wife died years ago but I remember her very well. I hope this is of some use to you.

Hello Jack, Sorry it has taken so long for to get back to you. The information you have given me is very interesting. I have written to all of the Burkes in the Cookstown telephone directory and have received a reply from a female relative of Kathleen's. Her father was indeed John!
The job we have now is to look for any Deady relatives.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and your information was very helpful, regards Mauree.

I worked with John Burke in an accountant's office in Cookstown in the mid 1960's. John's father was Richard, a school headmaster. John was married to Deidre McSherry from Coalisland. Both have now passed on. I know John had family, he had a son who died in his teens back in the 1980's. I believe that there may be another son and two daughters still in Cookstown. I hope this is of use.
