As we go about our daily lives - travelling to work, shopping, eating out, going to the pub .... we tend not to notice just how much the landscape around us has altered. Often it's not until someone visiting comments on how much everything has changed, that we suddenly take a good look at our surroundings. The number of new buildings that have gone up, those that have disappeared.

Aerial photo of central Belfast - When was it taken?

Take a close look at this aerial photograph of Belfast. (Click on the photo to see a larger version of it.) Once a distinctive shape on the Belfast skyline, the Gasworks have long since gone. The car park opposite BBC Broadcasting House in Ormeau Avenue (in the centre of the photo) is now a Holiday Inn Hotel. You'll notice from this shot that the new link road between the Dublin Road and Great Victoria Street had not yet been built. What other differences can you spot?

Brian Willis has put together an article incorporating his drawings of 1960s/70s Belfast .

What big changes have there been in the landscape of 'your place'? Tell us, add your comments at the bottom of the page or e-mail ypam-online@bbc.co.uk .
