"But if there's a 125 race,a 250, 400 and 750 -
Why do they call it The North West 200?"

North West 200 - Saturday, 12th May 2007

An important date in Northern Ireland's sporting calendar, the 'North West 200' is also an important date in many people's personal calendars, as they make the annual pilgrimage to Portrush and Portstewart to soak up the excitement of this biking extravaganza.

Click here for details of a NW200 exhibition marking the 75th anniversary of the race, in 2004.

"your place and mine" reporter Davy Apsley went to the races this year (2003) and produced a "picture page". Read here what he had to say about the event...

Is it an event you'd never miss? What is the atmosphere like and has it changed over the years? Have you any good photos? (You can e-mail copies to us - see the address in the final paragraph below) Do you meet up with the same people year after year?
Do you live abroad and can no longer attend? Have you ever helped in running the event? What's it like to take part? Would it matter if the 'North West 200' came to an end?

There was a 1945 bike on display at the North West 200 in 2002 and you had the chance of owning it. Click here to find out more....

I started going with my mates for a stag do in 2000, kept on going met a girl from Ballymoney in 2003. We now live together, have 2 children and I no longer get to go to my mates to the Northwest! What's all that about then!?

Answer to Nick's question, It is called the North West 200 because when it began back in 1929 it was one race of 200 miles. This was also the case of the Cookstown 100, Temple 100, Killinchy 150 etc.

Why is it called the North West 200? What does the 200 mean?
