Name/aka: Eoin Doherty, 32, called many many things, depends who's doing the calling!
Hometown:Carndonagh, Co. Donegal
Home region: Inishowen ( I own it!)
How long you surfing? 7 - 8 years (including bodyboarding)
3 sentences that describe you/what you do: Have to learn everything the hard way...often! Any surfing honours, comp wins etc?
I was asked to retire from the top pro events to give Kelly and Andy a chance! I don't like to talk about it. Where and why did you start surfing? Inishowen, Really hot day and somebody forced me to try bodyboarding! Proper dayglo wetsuit, but despite the 80's throwback, instant fun!
Your fave board: quiver me timbers? Battered 7' 6" NSP ( till used on flat summer days) 7' 2" Board by Rosy (Love it!) 6' 5" Warner fish type thingy (this is my fav board, i never understood the term "magic board" till i got this )
"Surfing is getting more popular in Ireland for sure". Discuss: Undoubtably, and why not considering our resources. A few more in the lineup but there's still plenty of ocean out there. Come winter there is always a natural cull anyway. People get weird about this topic. Most surf friendly pubs / gigs / eateries:
I'm a born again Vegan agrophobic with an aversion to using cutlery and loud noises. so I don't go to such places of ill repute!
Favourite Surfer/s and why: Laird Hamilton, first surf doc I saw was "Ride The Wild Surf", I was bodyboarding at that stage and loving it but a 2 foot wave still looked big to me. Film blew me away. Thought they were all mental. I still think they are all mental. Best thing about surfing: Putting on a cold, wet wetsuit on a January morning in the hailstones.
Your top music/reading/movies/tv/radio, surf or otherwise: Heck I'll listen to anything except "Happy hardcore". It's just bad noise! I read a lot, my wife helps me with the big words, she's so patient. Rear window will always be one of my favourite films.
Any ambition as a surfer? To spend more time ABOVE the water.
Dream surf trip: It would have to be local because everything I want in life is already here.
Anything else to declare? Currently finalising plans to tow the peninsula out West past Tory! Should pick up those southerly swells. Expecting some objections from residents but it will create a lot more beach front real estate! I need another rowing boat tho!
