RAISING CANNON

A silent tribute was paid at Downings to the lives of 354 people who were lost with the “Laurentic” almost 90 years ago. One massive cannon from the ship was unveiled on its original fittings following a three year salvage operation by a team of local divers. Mark Patterson spoke to Ivan Irwin, who was one of the divers who salvaged the cannon.
