ISLAY / OILEÁN ÍLE

Pic: Port Ellen, Island Of IslayTháinig Colm Cille i dtír in Iona in 563 ach deirtear gur ar dtús ar Eilean Ìle a leag sé cos ar Albain. Má amharcann tú ar léarscáil an oileáin seo, is furasta a thuiscint cén fáth go ndeirtear gurb é Ìle an choischéim idir Éire agus Alba. Is é Domhnall Angaidh MacIllinnein stiúrthóir ar Ionad Chaluim Chille Ìle. Míníonn sé cá háit go díreach a bhfuil an t-oileán...

Colmcille famously arrived in Iona in 563 but it is believed that his first step on Scottish soil was on the island of Islay. If you look at a map of these islands, it is easy to see why Islay was regarded as a stepping stone between Ireland and Scotland. Domhnall Angaidh Mc Illenann is the director of Ionad Chaluim Chille Ìle. He explains exactly where the island is situated.
