SHARED HERITAGE

News imageBhí nasc láidir cultúrtha ann riamh idir Éire agus Alba agus mar thús ar Sheachtain na hAlbain ar Blas, labhraíonn Lynette Fay le beirt saineolaithe ar an nasc cultúrtha sin. Léachtóir is ea Iain Mac Phersain i Rinne na Litríochta agus Teanga in Ollscoil Uladh Chúl Raithin. Rugadh agus tógadh Iain in Edmonton, Ceanada agus thosaigh sé ag fhoghlaim Gaeilge na hAlbain agus é ina dhéagóir. Is ball í Róise Ní Bhaoill de Choiste Náisiúnta Colmcille a raibh 'Iomairt Cholm Cille' air go dtí le gairid. Is é cothú agus caomhnú nascanna teangan agus cultúrtha idir Éire agus Alba is bun le hobair an eagrais.

The shared cultural heritage of Ireland and Scotland is the specialist subject of our first two guests of Scotland Week on Blas. Iain Mac Phersain, an Academic Fellow of the School of Languages and Literature at the University of Ulster, Coleraine, is a Canadian-born Gaelic speaker who took up the language in his teens; and Róise ní Bhaoill is a member of the national executive of the Colm Cille organisation, formerly known as Iomairt Cholm Cille, which aims to promote and preserve the cultural links between the two countries.
