Colin Sloan

13 October 2004 - a turning point.

Colin Sloan

"It was like the death of a family member. Everything changed that day. The future started and a whole new way of life."

The Story

Colin got a call at 4am in the morning. There had been a fire in the Belfast bookshop he had worked in for the past 17 years. He went down the next morning. Everything was either water-logged or frazzled. "We stood all morning and watched. It was like the death of a family member. It was really bad. Most of the damage water damage. A lot of new stock. Everything steaming. We collected belongings and personal items."

The story continues...

The fire at the bookshop where Colin worked in Belfast city-centre changed everything for him. From that experience he went on to write and subsequently publish his own collection of poetry 'From Lambeg to Drum' with accompanying images by acclaimed photographer, Brendan Murphy.
