Lukasz Adamczyk
"It was a big surprise for me. I thought maybe in this pub they don't like Polish people... I wonder why they sell Polish beer?"
The Story
Lukasz is a Business & Finance graduate from Nysa University in Poland. He came to Northern Ireland in May 2005. He works in Belfast as a catering manager. His story tells how, after having run the Belfast marathon in 2006, he was refused entry to a city pub because, as he was told, "Poles are troublemakers". He was shocked to be met with such blatant racism in a UK capital city.
My View
"It was a stupid thing and I won't allow it to deter me from integrating with society in Northern Ireland."
The story continues...
Shortly after arriving here, Lucasz joined St Malachy's football team and, within a few months, was approached by Bangor football club and was signed up. Just before Christmas '06 he was approached again by two clubs, Donegal Celtic and Glentoran. He signed up with Glentoran. He scored 4 goals in his first 6 matches.
Days Like This went to the Oval football grounds in Belfast to watch Lukasz practice. In the short video clip (see above), you can hear what Lukasz had to say about his positive experience and his hopes for the future.

Comment: A very moving tale - what a disgrace! The pub should be named and shamed. Wishing you every success with your football and that you meet real Northen ireland hospitality during your life here!
