David Seaby

David recalls his glorious summer of '52'.

David Seaby

"It was a traumatic day...As I grew up I realised what a very lucky escape I had..."

The Story

When he was ten years old, in the early 1950s, David lived in a Norman castle in Taunton in Somerset. It housed a museum with many fascinating store rooms. This innocent youngster stole an African spear and turned it into a throwing knife. He very nearly killed another child, who just happened to be an ex-enemy from prep-school!

The story continues...

The free-flying pet Rook which you can see in the photo above went with the family on holidays! It had to be donated to Belvue Zoo however after it started to take an unhealthy interest in the baby living next door.

Comment: A most interesting story in which the act dould have had tragic consequence. As children we sometimes impetously do daring things without thinking of the possible outcomes!
