Bobby Loney
"And like all good Christians, a wee prayer was shot up there... surely Lord, you can do something about this?"
The Story
Bobby and his family lived in Indonesia for some years serving with the overseas church. They were living well off the beaten track and conditions, particularly transportation, tended to be fairly primitive. Late one evening, making a four hour journey through the jungle back to the village they called home, they ran into some serious mechanical problems. There they were in the middle of nowhere, well after most people had gone to sleep, without help. Were they also without hope? Listen and decide for yourself...
My View
The experience of Indoesia was a brilliant cross cultural learning curve for both Hazel and myself. We now look back, seeing many dangers, challenges and joys.
Have a look at my photo gallery. I hope the pictures speak for themselves...
The story continues...
Five years of Bobby's ministry was spent giving help to the Indonesian church, especially in the area of Christian leadership and education.
In that time Bobby and his family had to learn the local language, (Bahasa Indonesia) and teach 12-16 hours per week in the theological Seminary in South Sumatra. Bobby also had responsibility for three first generation churches and pastoral responsibility for 25 students.
Other responsibilities included building, stocking and maintaining a new library and coaching the local soccer team.
Bobby's wife, Hazel, taught in the Seminary and in house groups. She taught English as a foreign language and also taught her own two children up until 1989, when the whole family came back home to N.I.
