Hugh Odling Smee

March 1999

Hugh Odling Smee

"It was a real turnaround for me I started to think what people would remember you for if you just went - just like that?"

The Story

Hugh was walking in a main street in Montreal when a nearby cyclist was hit by a car. The accident looked pretty bad but there were many people on the scene and Hugh did not need to become directly involved. Later, he found himself in an art exhibition of a New York artist, Keith Haring, who died of AIDS. All the events of that day came together in a way that prompted Hugh to think seriously about the random nature of life and death.
