Sept 2006 - the end of an era - and a new beginning

Karen Elliott

"I know it's called 'empty nest syndrome', but life goes on..."

The Story

The 'baby' of the family, Alan, left home in September 2006 to study Sports Management in Central Lancashire. His older brothers, Callum and Andrew had already 'flown the nest' in 2001, Callum to the North of Scotland and Andrew to University in England.

To combat the 'empty nest syndrome', Karen opened her first "Starburst Theatre" the very same day Alan left home. Her 'new baby' has since gone from strength to strength. There are now three schools; Antrim, Lisburn and Ballyearl. Students aged from 5 - 23 are given the opportunity to perform musicals of their own choice every term.

"No dirty washing. No untidy rooms or late, noisy nights with the sports-channel always on! You wake up in the morning knowing there are only 2 people in the house, not 10 or more, with bodies lying on all the sofas and floors..." It's taken a year - but LIFE IS GREAT!
