Una Duncan
"Family is so important and your own family is so special to you"
The Story
Una tells how, in the Millennium year, her entire family made a point of getting together on the occasion that would have marked the 60th wedding anniversary of her late mother and father. "There were 93 of us, aged from 2 to about 60."

Comment: Fantastic job Una. Thanks from Eileen, your wee sister in Fairfax Virginia USA. You have reminded us again of how important a family is to who we are and who we want to become. Catherine phoned from James Madison University and we cried together as we listened to your speech over the internet.
Thanks to Radio Ulster, who did a wonderful job representing a "Day like This" that touched all the McEvoy clan.

Comment: So proud of my sister Una and her account of a very special day in the McEvoy family. The24th June 2000 was a very memorable day in all of our lives - so memorable and enjoyable that it was repeated in July 2005 - and hopefully to be held again in 2010. That is what family means to us all and the younger generations are looking forward to the next one already.

Comment: Una. The emotion in your voice at the end of a wonderful day speaks volumes. The most fantastic day of our lives! Beautifully described and a day that John and Winnie would be proud of. Family, as you said, is the only important thing and that is a gift that has been passed down and cherished by each and every one of our family. Looking forward to 2010.

Comment: My parents got married on june 30, 1940, just a few days after your parents' wedding.... and we met in 2000, the year you initiated this fantastic reunion celebration. What a coincidence!!! I guess it says that we were meant to be friends - see the cosmics work very well, don't they? anyway, thanks to the mc evoy clan for allowing me into their circle of love and friendship. May it long continue to be so. Una, you spoke so beautifully on the radio... it was great listening to your commentary. love to all, a.

Comment: Wow! Thanks Eileen (and Radio Ulster) for passing the message along and Una for capturing so well what family means. The McEvoy family's warmth and hospitality goes beyond borders and we have been truly blessed by it. Like a pebble dropped in a pond, we hope Una's words ripple across the world and spur families to begin planning their first (or next) reunion. Thanks for making this a great day!

Comment: Lovely to hear Una on Radio. My neighbours knew it was our family as they probably heard me talk about the special blanket which is with me at present. I think I was privi ledged to hear when Una was going to record and I was so proud of her and would encourage all to do likewise. We all have so many special moments and why not shout about them. This life is for living and shining your light and inspiring others. Love from All clan in Dungiven
