Electric Picnic 2007
U.N.K.L.E.

Describe In Three Words: Lose the shades.

Remarkable Moment: It’s all a bit epic for a tent which had just seen Clap Your Hand’s Say Yeah less than half an hour ago, but the beanie-clad sunglassed James Lavelle, and his band of not-so-merry men, can’t be faulted during the timeless ‘Lonely Soul’, which tonight features guest vocals from Gary Moore.

Crowd Reaction: The crowd are a little subdued when Lavelle and Co. open with an instrumental, but it isn’t long until they have their hands in the air to Ian Brown’s invincible vocal in ‘Reign’. ‘Lonely Soul’ and ‘Rabbit In The Headlights’, tracks which feature very talented guest vocalists, seem to sit head and shoulders above other U.N.K.L.E. material – make of that what you will – but it’s hard not to feel there’s little substance beneath the formulaic instrumentals which intersect. Still, by no means a bad show.

EP Rating: 7
