Describe In Three Words: What a palavar.
Remarkable Moment: The whole thing was remarkable in a couple of ways. Firstly, Albarn. He likes to keep busy this boy, doesn't he? If it's not Chinese monkey operas, it's top hats and Dickensian grime with the bassist from The Clash. The smug grin may not age well, but you have to admire Albarn's passion for change, even if lyrically the thrust isn't a million miles away from his Parklife heyday.
Secondly, Paul Simonon. The man is a marvel. To quote Presley in King Creole, "he holds his guitar like a tommy gun", often with the audience squarely in his sights. His thumb barely seems to flutter at the backside of his bass, but he delivers one brilliantly economic bassline after another, each one thudding through your spine to give the whole thing an added dimension.
Crowd Reaction: The tent was packed and about as enthusiastic as you could expect an Irish audience to be to a blast of Londoncentric nostalgia, although the applause was punctuated by cries of "faster!" and "cheer up Damon, give us a smile".
