Describe In Three Words: Growing old disgracefully. But let's not get too worked up. It’s hard to, when you’re having this much fun. Mixmaster Mike gets the hype going before our three heroes stroll on and tear the place apart. Dressed in dapper suits and playing as a band, with a couple of musicians and an extra drummer, ‘Remote Control’ and ‘Root Down’ are performed as live, before the instruments are ditched for ‘3 MCs and one DJ’ and ‘Sure Shot’. It’s relentless… up to a point. Never before have we dreaded hearing the words "here’s something for our new album" as much as during this set. You see, the latest Beastie Boys album is a collection of glorified jamming sessions, with no vocals. It’s like listening to the Stones without any guitars. But I guess we should let them indulge themselves every few songs, as long as an ‘Intergalactic’ or ‘Check It Out’ are just around the corner. We’ll even forgive Mike D (wearing a daft afro wig – or is that his hair? We can’t see….) for constantly shouting "Dublin, Ireland!" Bar those noodly wig outs, it’s as we expected from an hour in the company of utter legends.Crowd Reaction: Those who made it inside are just so pleased to be there and the buzz is incredible. Crammed, but incredible. Even MCA, grey and looking a bit knackered, seems to be having fun. EP Rating: 9 for the hits, 3 for the noodles. Photo Gallery
